Yes, that’s right ladles and jellyspoons, Inky Collective is ONE YEAR OLD.
Well, it will be tomorrow. I’ve got a little ahead of myself. I’m excited. Gin for everyone!
I don’t even know where to begin on the things I’ve learnt, done, changed, achieved, messed up in the last year. Even on the surface, style wise, Inky has gone from this…
And, in my crafty brain (in that it is full of crafts, not that it is plotting… though it may be plotting), I have learnt all this:
Calligraphy with Lamplighter London | Linoprinting at London Graphic Centre | Wire Bird Workshop with Zack McLaughlin | Crochet with I Make Knots | Block Printing and Book Binding with L O I S | Foil Blocking at London Centre for Book Arts | Needlefelting Kit from Black Dog Ginger Cat | Bunting Necklace Making with Lucie Ellen | Letterpress with Harrington & Squires | House of Illustration | Bookbinding at London Centre for Book Arts | Watercolour with Elena Blanco
And been to many places and talks…
Take5Talk with Harriet Vine | The Old Printing Shop, Portobello Road | Crafty Fox Market | Pinterest Masterclass | Andiamo Fundraiser | St Bride Foundation Wayzgoose | L O I S Relaunch | Makerversity | Print Isn’t Dead Magazine Launch | Blogtacular | Mini Maker Faire | Crafty Fox Talks
Some of it is STILL to be written about. I’ll get to it, honest.
And I have printed all this (and then some)…
And I have had the good fortune to interview and showcase the work of more than 30 talented, lovely creatives (with a few more being featured in the coming month!).
I have gained lovely collective members, who spend a great deal of time creating fabulous content for this blog, and who spend even more time bouncing ideas around with me and each other.
I have sold online, in person, and am stocked in actual bricks and mortar shops.
I have learnt and taught, listened and talked. I have honed new skills and discovered new crafts.
I have gained kind readers and supportive followers. I’ve been featured on other blogs (out of the blue sometimes), and I’ve even been trolled (which is a true sign of success, right?).
Most importantly, I have met truly wonderful people and formed friendships within an incredible new network. I feel absurdly lucky and I am so, so grateful for all of it. Everything. You people are ace.
So. That’s what I have done. What’s next?
It’s quoted from a beautiful song, It’s Only by Odesza which I had stuck in my head every day after hearing it on this heartwrenching short film about a dog’s love for his human (warning, I cried like a baby). Of course I have it stuck in my head even more now that the prints are stacked on my desk!
While I had the press inked up with such stunning, happy colours I set to work on some notebook covers too. I still need to do a lot of folding and binding (and then take some decent product shots!), but here’s a little preview…
Complimentary hot pink thick thread and inner cover you say? 120gsm smooth pages perfect for writing and even a touch of calligraphy you say? Ok, it’s me saying it but I’m trying to build a bit of hype, alright?
I’ve wanted to make notebooks since I started printing, and I’m extra proud of these as they are made entirely by hand. Printed at the studio, then folded, sewn, and trimmed at my dining table.
There are a few more designs coming, but I’d love to hear what you think!
Another thing what I’ve been wanting to do is collaborate with my fellow makers, but I wanted to be confident that I could produce beautiful, high quality prints before I started approaching people. And I am now, yay!
I have three collaborations planned already, with three artists who have entirely different styles. I’ll be writing another post about this before the end of the month but oh em gee I am so excited.
I can’t say vlogging, I just can’t.
But yes, I’m jumping on the bandwagon! I was really hoping to have my first video done for the Inky anniversary but I’m new to the editing aspect and it’s just not ready. The plan for future is to share a short video each month to show you a little behind-the-scenes action from the studio, workshops and events I attend, and little snippets the likes of which don’t often make it to the blog.
My first one should be with you within the next week.
TOP SECRET PLANS
I’ve been hinting at a little blogging project and mentioning the possibility of letterpress workshops for a while now. I’m not trying to build suspense here, or drag it out. Actually I’m starting to worry about any unintentional oversell, haha.
For once I am taking my time and working out exactly how to go about both things, rather than let my ideas run away with me. But they are occupying a lot of brain space at present so, again, there will be blog posts about each winging their way to you very soon as I want to hear your thoughts on each, and may need your help with one especially.
And finally, a big fat slobbery kiss of a thank you to you, dear reader. I am beyond grateful to you for reading, commenting, emailing, following, retweeting, liking, sharing, and generally being the reason I sit down to write every time.
And if you’ve been reading for a while, but have never said hello before, please do so this week. I’d absolutely love to hear from you so I can say thanks right to your lovely face.
I am giving one lucky reader the chance to win one of everything from my letterpress range!
