Next week I’m really excited to be attending my first blogging conference, Blogtacular!
It’s promising to be a pretty magnificent, sprawling event, with dinner on Friday the 12th, a photowalk on the morning of the 13th, and workshops and talks all day from incredible speakers like Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge, Leona Thrift-ola of Lucky Dip Club, and Anthony Peters, co-director of documentary Made You Look, to name but a few!
As if that wasn’t enough, there will be goody bags for everyone and an after party, Pintacular, at the lovely West Elm on Tottenham Court Road.
Blogtacular is the brainchild of Kat Goldin and Kat Molesworth, who kindly squeezed some questions in to their hectic planning schedule!
How did you two meet, and come up with the idea for Blogtacular?
Kat and I met online. We noticed each other in a forum because we have the same name. Blogtacular was born out of frustration at a lack of places for creative bloggers to gather, share and learn.
And was that the Blogtacular we know and love now?
It was fully formed when we thought it up. We had dabbled with other ideas in the past but nothing felt as right as Blogtacular did.
When putting the first conference together last year, did things go according to plan, and was it the event you’d originally imagined?
We had a few teething issues! Creating awareness was probably our biggest challenge but once the community had heard of us the word spread pretty quickly.
The finished event was way better than we imagined; the atmosphere was so generous and warm. We could not have dreamt that it would be that fabulous.
What can attendees expect from Blogtacular this year?
This year we are proud to have a line-up of incredible speakers and exciting talks. We have panels on Instagram and Growing Your Audience, photography and styling classes as well as sessions on creativity, finding your voice, and travel.
We have a Creative Genius Bar where people can take some time out to make or get advice from our geniuses.
Our sponsors have some pretty impressive plans and I’m excited to see their stands.
What are your plans and hopes for Blogtacular in the future?
We have a few extras coming after this year’s event has wrapped but nothing I can share right now!
What top tips would you give to someone looking to start and grow their own blog?
Write from the heart and write about what you love. When the initial shine wears thin loving what you write about will keep you inspired and excited.
To find your audience, connect with bloggers who you feel a resonance with. Find ways to make new friends – social media and Blogtacular are great places to reach lots of like-minded people.
Podcast – This American Life
I’m a big fan of podcasts and don’t do a Monday morning work frenzy without This American Life.
Blog – Design*Sponge
Design*Sponge has my favourite regular business column – I’ve been reading it for years and have learned so many things.
Blog – Brain Pickings
App – MailChimp
App – TouchRetouch
Amazing for erasing annoying items like lampposts from photos.
Workshop – Blogtacular!
Thank you Kat!
I’m pleased to tell you lot that there are still a handful of tickets left for the conference, but they’re unlikely to last much longer (red alert, people!). Tickets are £145, cover all workshops and talks, and are on sale here.
In the meantime, you can keep track of the Kats and Blogtacular in the following places:
